Rocks and Minerals- NovemberStudents will learn about the different properties of various rocks and minerals by testing their properties.
PREP: May need to make copies. |
Slow Movement- (IF TIME)Students will learn how slow movement changes the surface of the earth. Student will see how water, glacier, chemical erosion effect the shape of our earth.
PREP: Need to make ice cubes & can use the trays in the lab freezer.

|
Earthquakes- March
Students will experiment with designs to build a structure that can withstand an earthquake.
PREP: Need to make jello in aluminum pans. |
Magnetism- OctoberStudents will experiment with the natural forces of magnetism. The students will learn all magnets have poles, magnets attract or repel one another, how electromagnets work, and that the Earth is a giant magnet. Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
ATTENTION: Keep compasses away from the magnets! These are kept separately behind the middle white board. Do not let students use the large/stronger magnets as they can pinch!
PREP: The battery tester is available in the battery tub behind the white board. Be sure to test batteries prior to the lab. May also need to make copies. |
Electricity- SeptemberStudents will make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents. Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
PREP: Need to make 2 different "doughs" for this lab.
|
Measurement Lab- AprilStudents are introduced to various measurement tools and taught how to use them and correctly record data. Students are introduced to distance, length, width, and volume.
PREP: May need to make copies.
|
Microscopes- MayDocuments to help with the use of microscopes in the lab.
